3 way translation

God always amazes me! Yesterday, Arnold preached a wonderful sermon at our new church. The normal guy who leads was sick. Arnold's mom came to church with us and a deaf couple that we had met came to church for the first time. It was so cool to see and hear Arnold preach in Spanish, Alisha translate it into English for Maw Maw and Maw Maw translate it into sign language (English) for the deaf Spanish couple. It was so amazing to see the Word of God go forth in such a unique way.

We are leaving tomorrow to go to Nazca for the week for meetings with our summer missionaries. Please pray for our safety and the safety of all those traveling to meet us there. Also, we have plans to see a few sights with Maw Maw while we are out of Lima. Please pray that we will make many memories and that everyone will have a great time!

Love you! Te Amo!

Father's day Pot Luck

Tonight, we hosted our first English Fellowship Potluck. It was a little difficult explaining the whole concept of a potluck but finally everyone got it! We had a great night of food, fun, fellowships and FATHER'S. Well, Arnold and Mike were the only fathers in attendance but we talked alot about how Peru celebrates Father's day and how they plan to celebrate tomorrow with their family. We also talked about some special memories of our fathers.

You know, this world has become so messed up that so many people don't have a healthy relationship with their father or maybe they never even knew their father. Isn't it amazing to know that we have a Heavenly Father who surpasses anything we could EVER imagine? Who is always with us, who always cares for us and will always love us and never leave or forsake us. WoW!

So, during our potluck of turkey, dressing, deviled eggs, pastas, cheviche, and tons of yummy desserts, we were reminded of God's love for all of us and that He is our Father!

Happy Fathers Day! May you spend your Fathers Day remembering your earthy Fathers and making them know how special they are, but better still, may you spend your Fathers Day WITH your Heavenly Father!

It's just not right!

Ok, I have to admit, last year I became addicted to American Idol! I know, I know! I have never been one for reality type shows but a friend of mine talked me into watching it in Costa Rica, and I have been hooked ever since.

Well, American Idol, as well as many other US series are several weeks behind here, so last year, the winner was revealed to us by an unsuspecting friend on accident. We were sooooooo disappointed. So this year, we did all we could to avoid the media, and any comments about American Idol.

We had done pretty well until a few weeks ago when I happened to catch a quick glimpse of the top 3 on one of the news sights. This aggravated me, but I still held hope for a big finish. SO, this was the big week here in Peru to find out who was the new American Idol. The shows air on Wed and Thurs. On Monday I was reading a newsletter from the SAME girl who let it slip last year, she ended her newsletter with the news of who won! This was on MONDAY!!!! So although I was very disappointed again, I still looked forward to the last two shows this week.

Last night as we sat down to watch. We realized that the network here decided that the final 2 nights of American Idol were not important and they began the New Latin American Idol Season. AARRGHHHH!

Oh well! Maybe we will get lucky next year! I know, I Know, It's just a show!

Guess who is coming for dinner!

And Breakfast and Lunch and Dinner and Breakfast and Lunch...... We just found out that our pleas and petitions have not fallen on deaf ears. Arnold's mom, Elaine, but better known as MawMaw has booked her flight and is coming for a visit. She isn't given us much time to anticipate nor prepare, because she will be coming in a little over a week. Her plane lands in Lima Peru on the 21st and she will spend the summer with the kids. (their vacation, which is really winter vacation, is 4 weeks long) She will go with us to Nazca to the mid-summer debriefing with our summer missionaries, so that will be a good time for her to get a feel for the real Peru. I am so excited to see her. It has already been a year since she arrived in Costa Rica. Boy time flies!
Please pray for the health of her mother, MawMaw Akee, during her trip here, that she will remain healthy and happy.
Also, to make sure that MawMaw returns, PawPaw is going to come for 2 weeks at the end of July to bring her back. Please pray that everyone stays healthy and that we all make some special memories and that they have lots of time to love on their grandkids.
Sure wish some more of you could come love on us. We are waiting!

First Baptism Service

The church in Las Torres also celebrated it's first baptism service last Sunday as well as two professions of faith. One was a 13 year old boy named Junior. Just one month ago, he had to be taken to the hospital for attempting suicide. Last Sunday, Junior gave his heart to Jesus. Also, a 91 year old man, stood and gave his life to the Lord as well!
The church also rejoiced with the first 2 baptisms! What a wonderful day!

Meet the community of Las Torres

Here are some photos of our new friends and also from the area of Las Torres where we attend church.

Iglesia Bautista Torre Fuente

We have begun attending a new church start in an area of Lima called Las Torres. Last Sunday was our 3rd Sunday and we have begun to make new friends and relationships.
Last Sunday the church had a special lunch for us called a "pachamanca". This is where they dig a hole in the ground and they cook potatoes (different types of potatoes like white, yellow, sweet etc) a type of corn called Choclo, a bean called "abas" and meat (beef, chicken and pork). They are covered with the dirt and cooked for several hours until they are just right.

Here are some pictures from when they were taking the food out of the ground. And the plate of food that I was given to eat! All of this was for me!!!

A New Home Remedy?

This morning, Arnold woke up complaining of a cold sore. He quickly got out his bottle of medicine and began applying it every so often. I asked why his lip was so white. As he took out his bottle of medicine to apply it once again, I noticed that he was NOT applying cold sore medicine, he was applying ear drops!!!! This was one home remedy that did not work! Ha!

Talent Night

The whole school had "Talent Night" and it was a fun night filled with talent and sometimes not so much talent. Alisha and her friends did a song and dance from high school musical as well as a skit. My two favorite talents (besides Alisha's of course) was from Patrick's teachers children. One little boy about the age of 5 had the talent of eating donuts. And he ate donuts to music and it was just really cute. But his brother who is 7 placed an raw egg on a steel spatula and then tossed it into the air and caught the egg (without breaking it) on the edge of the spatula. It was unbelieveable. His dad said he learned it at Benny Hannas. It was very impressive. Of course Arnold tried it at home and after 3 broken eggs, he was told to stop!

Loverly Lips!

Here's a look at the split lip! Ben got his stitches out last Tuesday(the doctor said he lost count of how many stitches he got as he sewed up after number 18) Ben still has to wear this bandagey thing for 2 months. When I asked the doctor if he could resume sports, the doctor said yes, he can play anything that isn't played with a ball. Horseshoes anyone????

Going Fishin!

A few days ago, Patrick received a special birthday package from the states for his birthday. Mr. Earl and Mrs. Susan from Shreveport, sent him a tackle box with all sorts of fishing equipment. Patrick was soo excited! He and Arnold went fishing in the ocean but the fish weren't biting. Thanks Mr. Earl! We are hoping to catch a big one!

Senior High Banquet

Last weekend, the high school had their end of the year banquet. They all dressed up and went to eat at a fancy restaurant and then went to a friends house for an after party and then Alisha and several friends spent the night at her friends house. They all looked fabulous and had lots of fun. Here are a couple of pictures from her big night.
