Boo-HOO!

We just got a call from my friend Kim and her daughter Sarah. They were suppose to arrive tonight at 11:30pm BUT the weather was so bad that the plane didn't take off, when she went to reschedule, the soonest available flight was on Sunday. So they won't be here until Sunday and will stay until Sunday. I have spoken with my surgeon and he is going to try to change the surgery from Thursday until Monday or Tuesday of the next week.

Please pray for their upcoming trip! I am still soooo excited! I just have to wait a little longer.

The proof is in the photo

I AM the shortest in the family. It was bound to happen! The kids are growing so fast.

Please be in prayer for each of them. Some specific prayer requests are:
Alisha: She is currently researching and trying to make a decision on which college that she would like to attend.
Ben: He as he begins his science project on energy and electricity.
Patrick: As he continues his science fair project and specifically for his tics from his tourettes. He is having a really hard time right now.

Thank you for your prayers. We love you all! Time flies by, make every moment count!

The gall of it all!

We just recieved word yesterday that I, Susie, will be having surgery to remove my gall bladder on February 7, the day that my dear friend Kim will leave. We will bring her to the airport and then Arnold will take me to check me into the Clinica San Felipe. The surgeon says that it should be a pretty simple procedure and that I should only have to spend one night in the hospital.

Please pray that all goes well and that I experience no pain. (I sure hope so!) My mother in law is here and will help out so that is such a blessing. Thanks for your prayers!

Updates later.

Maw Maw is here!

Maw Maw arrived late last night and we are already really enjoying her visit. Don't tell PawPaw but Patrick already talked her into going to the Inca Market today (this is our souvenir market) That is one of their (Patrick and MawMaws favorite things to do)

Kim is packing up and will be arriving tomorrow. I am so excited I just do not know what to do. Forgive me if I go a few days without updating. I will try.

We finally got all our clothes washed from our trip to Chile. It was a good week, hot and tiring but good. Patrick got to swim a lot and Alisha and Ben had a great time. The food was amazing!!! Unlike Peru, Chile has sweet yellow corn and makes lots of yummy foods with it and its meal. Arnold and I both made ourselves sick on yellow kernel corn. ha! (Lynn L. don't you dare make any jokes about my stockpile of canned corn!!! HA!)

We also had Subway the last day! WOW! I believe it was the best Subway I have ever had in my life and I know I have had a ton of them.

We love you all and we ask you to pray for us and all of our company.

Chilean Indigenous Dance

Here are some performers showing our missionary group some of the customary dance found in Chile.

The training was a long week and tiring, but we came out learning much that we can apply to our ministry.

2008 South America Summit

Many of you know that in 2008 the South America (SAM) Region of the International Mission Board (IMB), which includes all of the countries in South America, will be the region of the world that will be emphasized throughout Southern Baptist Churches in the United States. To kick off this emphasis, there will be a summit in Gainesville, Florida this week beginning on Wednesday night. The summit will include training for churches who will be partnering with us along with lots of information about unevangelized and unreached areas throughout South America.

Please pray for missionaries and our SAM regional leadership team who are traveling today and tomorrow to Florida. Pray for the churches who will be partnering with us to reach South America with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you would like to know more about South America and the work being done by missionaries sent by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, you can go to www.TakingIt2TheEdge.org or http://southamerica.imb.org/

Thank you for your faithfulness in praying with us for all of the peoples of South America.

The Forecast for tomorrow is Chile

We along with our South American missionaries will be heading to Chile tonight (very late) for our annual meeting. It should be a good time of learning, study and fellowship. Please be in prayer for our week. We will return at the beginning of next week.

We are all very excited too because we just recently found out that there are Subway Sandwiches in Chile! That really makes me happy!

When we return we will begin preparing for the arrival of Maw Maw, Kim and Sarah. Then school will be just around the corner. Also, the doctors will be making the decision whether I have surgery to remove my gallbladder or not. Today I had an upper endoscopy to rule out any other causes. Please just pray that whatever they decide to do, will fix the problem.

We love you all!

It's hot down here!

WOW! It has been really warm down here. (Not HOT in relation to the heat waves they have in the south) but for here, it has been hot. We recently had to purchase a couple more fans just to make this concrete house livable. Praise the Lord for fans!!!

The sun has been shining and it has been so pretty outside. It really does feel like summer! You all should come and escape the dreary cold in the states.....oh yeah, some of you are!!! HeHe!

MawMaw, Kim and Sarah, make sure to pack your bathing suits and sunscreen!!!

See you soon!

When the saints go marching in.

Patrick was excited when he received a guitar for Christmas. He had begun lessons in the states before we left but after he broke his arm, he had to stop his lessons and then by the time it healed it was time to move, so when he got his new guitar, he was so excited. Yesterday, he AND Arnold began lessons with a Peruvian guy named Cesar. Within the first few minutes, Patrick was playing "When the Saints go Marching in". He was so happy. He has been practicing his cords and a few songs all morning.

Arnold has always wanted to learn (since we were first married and lived in New Orleans..getting close to 20 years ago now) Anyway, he really needs to learn to help us in our ministry to our English classes. He too has been practicing and playing "When the Saints go Marching in". It almost inspires me to learn. HMMM maybe not!

Be watching for their upcoming single, only sold here "When the Saints go Marching in". Ha! Maybe I will tape them and put it on u-tube!

Oh When the Saints go Marching in. I can't get it out of my head!

Hi-Ho Off they go...again!

Alisha and Ben are busy packing today to head out of the country tomorrow. They will be making their second journey to Paraguay to attend the annual mission conference for MK'S (Mission Kids) Poor Patrick, he still is not old enough yet but without the two older ones here, I am sure he will get the royal treatment!

Please pray for Alisha and Ben as well as the 4 other MK's from Peru and Amy Fisher, their chaperone as they leave very early tomorrow morning and hopefully have a wonderful time of retreat and spiritual refreshment. Pray that they make lots of new friends, learn a lot more about Christ, grow in their spiritual walk and make lots of memories.

Also, please go ahead and be praying for their journey back home. The day that they return, we will wash their clothes and head back to the airport to fly to Chile with all of the missionaries here for our annual meeting. It should be a good week of learning, getting to see other missionary friends serving in other countries and visiting with our missionaries here in Peru that we don't get to see very often. So be praying that their flight will be on time and that we can get it all together before they are off again!

Love you all and miss you so much!

I am so thankful that my Lord knows my needs before I ask

Yep, He knows and He cares too! I am so thankful that HE is concerned about my life, my feelings, my future. I am reminded of this because in the past few days, I have found out that one of my dearest and best friends, Kim Babin and her daughter Sarah have plane tickets and are coming to Peru for a visit! I was reminded of a verse that the kids and us have recently memorized in Proverbs "Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land." This is just how it felt to receive this news, just like cold water to my weary soul. The Lord knew that I needed to see my dear friend. I am so excited and can't believe that they will be here so soon. They arrive on the 31st of this month.

Also, my mother in law, Mrs. Elaine, has plans to arrive on the 29th so we will have a full house. I am excited to share with all of them our new home, introduce them to our friends and our ministry here.

Please be praying for each of them as they prepare to come!

Fun in the sun!

Yesterday, we went to the beach for a play day! We met up with some other missionaries who have kids our kids ages and decided to soak up the sun. We had a great time and enjoyed the break.

The water was pretty cold so only the kids and the men got in. Us girls just relaxed in our lawn chairs. I had to laugh as all the kids ended up covered in sand just like they used to when they were little bitty!

As the day went on, the sun withdrew behind some clouds and it got quite nippy. It was a great day and a good opportunity to get to know some more of our missionary family a little better!

(Sorry to speak about the sun, sand and surf to those of you enduring the cold, slush and snow....all the more reason to come see us here in Peru!)

Have a triumphant New Year

As we begin the New Year, I hope the Lord's blessings are heaped on each and every one of you. What I really hope is that when God's blessings come, that you recognize them and give credit to Him for his working in your life.

I hope that you realize every triumph in your live this year. I got to thinking about what a triumph was this past week when we stopped by the local hardware store. We parked beside the Triumph in the photo, compete with GA license plates. We took the photo, really as a joke. Look closely, the gas tank has rusted off, the roof is canvas stretched between rebar, and the springs on the seats are not covered. You can see all of this and more and make a joke or look down on this car....or you can do as I have begun to do this week.

To some Peruvian, this car is a true triumph, a victory. It is a blessing. It gives mobility where before there was none. It gives freedom to where there was confinement to the bus system. It opens up a whole new world for someone. Just the simple fact that he can drive to the hardware store on his own time frame is a victory that we often take for granted. Someone sees this car a blessing, do we?

As we enter the new year, let us all look for the triumphs God brings us and not overlook not even one small blessing in our lives. As we begin the new year, "count your many blessings. name them one by one". By doing this, we will triumph in the Lord.
